Tauber Institute Industry Director, Ray Muscat will be a featured speaker in the AMS Summit’s Developments in Lean & OpEx Session

The Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan is proud to announce its participation at the 10th Annual American Manufacturing Strategies Summit in Houston, Texas, October 21-22, 2019.

Tauber Institute Industry Director, and former Herman Miller Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Research and New Product Operations, Ray Muscat will be a featured speaker in the AMS Summit’s Developments in Lean & OpEx Session. His presentation, “The Herman Miller Performance System Story and the Development of the Next Generation of Operations Leaders,” chronicles the journey of the Herman Miller Performance System (HMPS) from its humble beginnings as a collaboration with the Toyota Supplier Support Center at a small Herman Miller subsidiary, to its enterprise-wide implementation today. Muscat will share results achieved at both the local and corporate levels, and explain how Herman Miller propagates HMPS principles and the application of lean thinking from the factory floor to traditional office functions.

“At Tauber, we have a track record of empowering leaders to solve operations and technology-based challenges through our multidisciplinary, action-oriented education, global industry partnerships, and our dynamic community,” said Muscat. “This case study at the AMS Summit will cover the challenges encountered while developing and sustaining a lean manufacturing system at Herman Miller, lessons learned, and changes made along the way to foster a corporate culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, we’ll talk about developing the next generation of operations leaders through the Tauber Institute’s innovative, award winning graduate program.”

Prior to joining the Tauber Institute for Global Operations as Industry Director, Muscat’s corporate career included leadership roles in the Automotive, Defense Electronics, Aerospace and Office Furniture industries. His expertise includes engineering, manufacturing, program management, mergers and acquisitions, global manufacturing strategy development and execution, and the implementation of the Toyota Production System/Lean Manufacturing principles.

Join Ray Muscat for “The Herman Miller Performance System Story and the Development of the Next Generation of Operations Leaders” on Tuesday, October 22nd at 3:10 p.m. EST at the Hyatt Regency Houston.
